Santa Monica Mountains Backbone Trail
After finals, I will be hiking from UCLA to my hometown Newbury Park via Santa Monica Mountains Backbone Trail. I will start at Will Rogers State Park, through Topanga Canyon, Malibu Creek, Circle X, Boney Mountain, and let out in Newbury Park at the Satwiwa trail. It is almost 60 miles so I expect it to take 3-4 days. There is limited or no official camping at certain stretches, but I will make do. There are no bears, weather is temperate, and cell reception can be found, so I'm confident I'll do just fine. Hopefully I can arrange to get my dog from my mom before heading out.
I have to research how much water I need to bring and what areas I can get potable water from. Or I can purchase a filter system or chemical stuff for water, though I doubt I'll find much natural running water anyways. I plan on just eating peanut butter, bread, and fruit since they will hold well and peanut butter is very calorie dense. Not sure if I can wait a few days after finishing finals to wait for friends to be able to accompany me. I am anxious to go to the hometown, and a few days alone in wilderness could be beneficial to my soul thinking about life.Labels: adventures, finals, hiking, outdoors
